Kobe Luminarie Festival 2011 is now taking place in Sannomiya & Motomachi area in Kobe.
Kobe Luminarie Festival started to be held right after we got "Kobe Earthquake in 1995" so that we prayed for 6,434 people who died in the earthquake.
This year's Kobe Luminarie Festival is very special for us. We got another massive earthquake in Tohoku area on March 11th, 2011. This year's earthquake got huge deadly Tsunami wave we didn't have in Kobe Earthquake. Because of over 15meter (50feet) Tsunami wave, about 16,000 people died and 4,000 people are still missing.
That's why we have two of lighted up objects this year , one for people who died in Kobe Earthquake and the other one is for people who died in Tohoku Earthquake, although we have only one in regular year.

If you are in Kansai area before December 12th, 2011. It definitely worth to see it.
They have the route to walk through the lighted up gates. (Sorry about poor quality video... It was raining and also my son was sleeping on my shoulder. I shot the video not trying to get my iphone wet nor dropping my sleeping son to the ground... You can get some ideas about Kobe Luminarie.)
People can only enter the route near Motomachi station on Hanshin Line or JR Line. Although it's walking distance from Sannomiya station, I recommend you to get off the Motomachi station.
